Barn Owls

Another season of ringing Pully is coming to an end ,with all this rain its a miracle anything has survived, a few ringers i have spoke too have told of many a Blue Tit box with dead young in. Not the case to day, Three Cracking Barn Owl young nearly ready to fledge. Also a quick check on a Kestrel nest with one bird left in which should have gone but obviously likes the home comforts of food being brought to it, i have two of these at home, when will they fledge.

Thanks to Andy Jowett and Pete Roe for another great morning.

Nightjars

After a busy morning doing the Hen Harriers i met up with Andy at 8pm to try for Nightjar, As we set up Two Males where displaying in broard daylight , by 01:30am we had had them around the net over the net under the net and in the net{bounced out}. Amazing birds, maybe next time .

Look at what you could have caught {One of Andys catches last friday}

Hen Harriers

I was invited to go to a Hen Harrier nest and ring the chicks, and see how the new method of wing tagging was carried out.The Weather had been awful leading up to the day so i didn't hold much hope. Thursday i got a call from Dave to tell me to meet him at 9 o'clock at a certain place and if i hadn't heard anything by 7.00am to set off . The Weather was great not to hot which was good as it was an up hill climb to where we were going. 6 Chicks in and around the nest was amazing and very good news. An absolute superb morning , A big Thank you to Dave Sowter and Richard Storton. A day i shall never forget.
